About Our Programs:
There’s nothing better than seeing your child light up with curiosity while digging under a log to find a pill bug, holding a wiggly worm for the first time, or proudly showing their discoveries to new friends. These simple moments of exploration are where real learning begins.
Little Hikers Long Island is a fully outdoor nature program for children ages 2–6 and their caregivers held at West Hills County Park. Each class focuses on a simple nature theme as children explore the trail, lift logs, observe insects and plants, jump in puddles, play movement games, and create hands-on nature crafts connected to what they discover.
Young children learn best through active exploration, not by sitting still. Our program encourages curiosity and child-led discovery while introducing early nature science in a simple, engaging way. Children observe insects, plants, trees, soil, and seasonal changes while using tools like magnifying glasses and binoculars.
Through these experiences, children build observation skills, confidence, balance, and curiosity about the natural world. Nature-based learning supports physical development, early scientific thinking, and a lasting connection to the outdoors while giving children the freedom to explore, ask questions, and learn through experience.
Our Mission:
Our mission is to teach children about nature through hands-on exploration, helping them build confidence, stay active, and develop a lifelong love for the natural world—because when children love nature, they learn to protect and care for it.
