About Our Programs:

There’s nothing better than seeing your child light up with wonder while digging under a log to find a pill bug, proudly holding a wiggly worm for the first time, giggling because it tickles, and excitedly showing all their new friends.

Kids grow so fast, and sometimes it feels like the days fly by in a blur of snacks, tantrums, and screen time.

Little Hikers Long Island is a fun outdoor program for children ages 2–6 and their caregivers. We explore the beautiful West Hills County Park trail, jump in puddles, lift logs, play games, and create simple nature crafts.

Young children learn best through play, not by sitting still or following rigid lessons. That’s why our program is built around child-led exploration. Some days we hike farther because the kids are curious and excited. Other days, we settle in one spot to dig and observe.

Each lesson is centered around a simple nature theme, and children learn about bugs, animals, and plants they may find on the trail.

The program's focus is to learn about nature, have FUN in nature, and build skills that support physical, emotional, and social growth.

Our Mission:

To inspire a love for nature while prioritizing children’s physical and mental health through fun, engaging outdoor adventures. We aim to create a supportive community where kids can grow stronger, more confident, and connected to the world around them, while building lasting memories with families!

  • Discover:

We come together briefly to talk about the day’s nature topic, like bugs, plants, or animals, and get the kids curious about what they might discover.

  • Explore:

We set off on a kid-friendly hike, digging, searching under logs, peeking into trees, and using tools like magnifying glasses and binoculars to explore the outdoors at the kids’ own pace.

  • Create & Play:

We have fun in nature by playing games, creating nature crafts, splashing in puddles on rainy days, and ending each class with popping bubbles.

  • Boost Curiosity and Learning

Encouraging children to explore their surroundings, ask questions, and engage all their senses through hands-on discovery and child-led adventures in nature.

  • Develop Motor Skills and Confidence

Through activities like digging with shovels, nature walks, and hands-on crafts that encourage coordination, strength, and independence.

  • Promote Emotional and Social Growth

By encouraging children to build friendships, practice teamwork and empathy, and develop emotional resilience as they adapt to changing weather and new outdoor challenges.

  • Weather Safety Policy

Little Hikers follows guidance from the American Academy of Pediatrics and makes weather decisions based on environmental safety conditions.
