The July & August bundle gives children 8 consistent weeks outdoors to observe the trail when it is full, active, and constantly changing.

At this time, we find insects everywhere (roly-polies under logs, worms, millipedes, beetles, ants, spotted lanternflies, butterflies, bees, and so many more!) Children may hear buzzing and chirping, spot insects moving through grass, and find them under logs, on leaves, and along the trail.

Plants are thick and fully grown, with wildflowers, seeds, and drying leaves. We also look for signs of animals using the forest (chewed leaves, holes in the ground, feathers, and movement in the trees).

As children attend each week, they begin to recognize the same bugs, birds, and plants they see on the trail. The consistency and repetition help children thrive and actually remember what they learn.

We focus on insects during this time, looking at where they live, how they move, what they eat, and how they help the environment. Children use magnifying glasses, binoculars, and simple tools to explore and observe up close.

Each class follows a structure: movement games, nature-based toys and puzzles, a short educational lesson, a guided trail walk, and a hands-on craft or activity connected to the topic… and bubbles!

The goal is to get children curious about the natural world around them

This program introduces early science through real experiences in nature, while also supporting:

  • Language development (learning new words and describing what they see)
  • Gross motor skills (walking, balancing, climbing on natural terrain)
  • Fine motor skills (crafts and hands-on activities that support early handwriting skills)

This program is great for children who:

  • Love to move
  • Learn best through hands-on experiences
  • Are curious about bugs, animals, and nature
