Does your child love solving mysteries, exploring the woods, and taking on challenges? Then they will LOVE this special Nature Detective Adventure!
Together, we'll complete four detective missions as we search for clues, investigate the woods, and learn real-world outdoor skills along the way.
Each child will receive:
• Nature Detective notebook
• Magnifying glass to take home
• Poison Ivy Identification Card
• Nature Detective Certificate
Mission #1: Poison Ivy Detective
Can your child spot poison ivy and tell it apart from its look-alikes?
We'll search the trails for poison ivy and learn how to identify some of its most common look-alikes, including wineberry and Virginia creeper.
Mission #2: Animal Clue Investigation
Who has been wandering these woods?
We'll search for tracks, feathers, chewed acorns, holes in trees, animal homes, and other clues left behind by animals and insects.
Mission #3: Trail Safety Challenge
Could your child build a trail rescue kit?
We'll solve mystery challenges, learn what belongs in a trail kit, discover what to do if you become separated from your group, practice using a whistle for emergencies, and learn outdoor safety skills every young explorer should know.
Mission #4: Your Amazing Hiking Body
What happens inside your body when you're hiking?
We'll discover why your heart beats faster when you're climbing hills, why you breathe harder when you're running, and why staying hydrated is so important when exploring outdoors. Children will learn how to find their pulse and compare their heart rate before and after activity.
